Granted, it is a difficult time. Perhaps the most difficult time we will see in our careers. You might be thinking that issues like diversity in the workplace should be put aside until things get better. But, do we really have to?

There are stages you will go through as a business emerges from a crisis like this. The first is, literally, SURVIVAL. Just getting through this time—however long it is until we return to some kind of normalcy—requires hard work, determination and very careful planning.

But the second stage of the process is all about innovation, creativity and entrepreneurial thinking. And here is where, as I share in the video, nurturing diversity, fostering equality, doubling down on letting all voices be heard, is so critically important.

If everyone feels like they fully belong and that their ideas are important, you will see more creative input as your teams and businesses press the restart button. Many of us hope that some businesses may be unchanged by the pandemic, but the truth is MANY will have to do business differently going forward. Take a look at these questions below.

  • How do you compete in that new environment?
  • How do you speak to your customers in new and more effective ways?
  • How do you market successfully in a changed world?
  • How do you lead your teams now after trust eroded?

The answers to the questions above will propel you forward into the final stage…recovery. The new business model has to engage your employees differently to harness the strength that diversity in your workplace provides. This can propel you forward to even greater success in the future.
