How do you actually get work done when you must work from home? Especially now where our anxiety and fears about the pandemic are on high alert and we watch the peaceful protests as well as the violence over the calls for social justice?

It is not easy and there is no ‘playbook’ for what we are all going through—more so on what you are personally going through. It can be so easy to fall into an unproductive rut, and being stuck at home doesn’t help the issue. That is why I made this video to share my work from home tips which hopefully you will find helpful.

There are a number of very specific ways to do things that will help you be more productive. The first thing though—the thing that you absolutely must do–is be gentle with yourself. Do not be hard on yourself. Understand that this is a very difficult time and we are in an unchartered water. No one knows exactly how to navigate it but there are some tricks that will help.

It can be so hard to get things done—particularly all the things that you think you must and SHOULD get done—when there is so much else to manage. You’re helping the kids with their schoolwork—at whatever level they are. You are still managing the household and it could be more complicated than usual because is it safe to eat out yet? And there is what I call the ‘fear factor’. All this extra anxiety can easily drag us and our productivity down. It’s only to be expected!

Getting work done is hard as it is for some people, especially those of us who thrive on personal interaction. And it’s true, productivity isn’t always simple to achieve. But do know that there are ways to help yourself and to make it a little easier on you. I know you’re doing the best you can to get through this. Be gentle with yourself. Believe in what you can do. We’ll figure it out together.
