Today’s discussion is from an interesting study done by Deloitte called ‘The Rise of the Individual and the Future of Work’ where they discussed the five important trends we will expect within the business world. How will these trends affect our career aspirations? How will these trends challenge future leaders in particular?
This video is meant to provide you with a look at what future leaders should do in order to be the best that they can be. Because let’s face it, effective leadership will rely on keeping up with new trends.
The first trend is the rise of robots and AI. As these become more prevalent, you as a leader need to be thinking forward. Learn to take advantage of these new technologies and use them to be more productive.
Second, the job market is tight right now. The shortages of qualified candidates in the market mean that you need to focus your attention and effort on developing the talent that you already have. Internal development will be key for future leaders if they want a team that they can truly rely on.
Another trend is low productivity. People are not any more productive than they were ten years ago. One possible reason for this is that people have fewer and fewer opportunities for innovation due to time constraints. Effective leadership means creating opportunities within your organization for people to shut off their emails and focus on the important tasks.
People are also working too much. People are now taking one less week of vacation than they had before. Employees feel so overworked and overwhelmed that one in six are on sleeping pills, antidepressants, or anti-anxiety medication. Make sure that you take care of the mental wellbeing of your employees by creating wellness programs.
With this new wealth of information, perhaps you need some time to think about what you can do differently moving forward. My goal in this video is to share some insights not just on how to adapt to the ‘new normal’ but also on how to practice effective leadership in the workplace. You WANT that edge to help you have more impact in the business especially in this critical time!
As these trends continue and accelerate, future leaders will need to stay up to date with the changes. Effective leadership is going to depend on how well leaders can adapt to the transformations occurring all around them.
